Kadalai Mittai/ Kadalai Urundai / Peanut chikki/ peanut jaggery balls

Kadalai mittai is very easy to make at home with just the simple ingredients that are easily available in the kitchen. This can be made during festivals for a pooja offering or just as an evening snack. This can also be stored for upto 10 days in air tight containers. This is usually made during karthigai deepam along with pori urundai /puffed rice and jaggery balls.

You must be very careful in preparing the sugar syrup. This is the most important step. The peanut balls will harden after sometime and you can dust it with rice flour and store it in containers.

Ingredients:
Peanuts-1 cup
Jaggery-3/4 cup
Cardamom powder-a pinch
Rice flour-little
Preparation :
  • Roast the peanuts and remove the skin completely.
  • Break the peanuts into halves as much as possible.
  • For preparing the jaggery syrup, add 3 tbsp of water to the jaggery and heat it on a low flame and dissolve it.
  • Filter the jaggery to remove impurities.
  • Now boil this jaggery to form a soft ball consistency.
  • For checking the consistency drop a tsp of syrup in a cup of water. It should not dissolve and you must be able to make balls when you gather it.
  • Pour the jaggery syrup on the roasted peanuts and mix well with a ladle.
  • Dust some rice flour in your hand and make small balls.
  • These balls will harden after some time.
  • Dust some rice flour on the balls before storing it in containers to avoid it from sticking to each other.
