Pori urundai / puffed rice jaggery balls

Karthigai deepam is nearing and I wanted to share with you all the recipe for pori urundai. It is very easy to make but you need to be careful with the jaggery syrup consistency.

This pori urundai can be made and stored in air tight containers and can be given to toddlers and kids as an evening snack. When you make it at home it is very hygenic compared to the store bought ones. You can adjust jaggery according to your preference.

I have already posted the kadalai urundai / peanut jaggery balls recipe here but have not shown step by step instructions. Here I have included step by step instructions with pictures.

Step by step instructions :

1.Take the jaggery in a pan and add 3 to 4 table spoons of water and heat it.

2.Keep stirring constantly until you get a thick syrup. Add the cardamom powder and mix well.

3.Drop a teaspoon of the syrup in a bowl of water. It should not dissolve and when you gather it and roll it with your fingers you must be getting soft balls. This is the right consistency. Switch off.

4.Pour the syrup on the puffed rice or pori and mix with the ladle.

5.Dust some rice flour on your palms.

6. Gather the mixture and make balls of desired size. Repeat with the remaining mixture.

7.Dust the balls with some rice flour before storing to prevent it from sticking to each other. At first the balls Will be soft and will turn harder after some time.
