Banana Appam

Kids are so fond of snacks and we as parents are worried about their health. Junk foods causes obesity and many other health obstacles in young children so it is always better to go with the home made  snack varieties for kids as well as adults.
Appam is a south Indian snack variety that can be prepared both sweet and spicy. There are so many appam recipes. Here is a simple banana appam using wheat flour and jaggery. It can also be prepared using maida or all purpose flour but wheat is a healthier choice.I have used oil to deep fry but frying in ghee is the traditional method. If you are health conscious then just make a thinner batter and make dosa on a dosa pan by spraying little ghee or oil which is similar to pan cakes.

Ingredients :
  • Ripe bananas-2
  • Wheat flour-1 cup
  • Jaggery- 1/2 cup
  • Water- as needed
  • Salt-one pinch
  • Elaichi powder-1tsp
  • Oil-for deep frying

Preparation :
  • Heat oil in a pan
  • In the meantime take a wide bowl and put the wheat flour, powdered jaggery, elaichi, banana and salt in it
  • Add water and make a smooth batter of thick pouring consistency without lumps.
  • Once the oil is hot pour the batter in oil little at a time using a sambar ladle.
  • Fry until it turns golden brown.
  • Transfer to paper towels and drain excess oil .
  • Serve hot .
